Overview

Parents are solely responsible for selecting materials, deciding the time, place and method of instruction, and evaluating instruction (§53G-6-204(2)(a)). On request, the local board must identify recommended grade-level knowledge and skills (§53G-6-204(2)(c)). USBE notes the 2025 changes removed the affidavit and criminal-background attestation requirements. Home schooling may be done alone or in cooperation with other parents, including paid services (§53G-6-204(6)).
